Situation & Challenge
Fleet and telematics teams needed one mobile app to monitor vehicles in the field — live positions, geofences, trip history, and connected device control — without juggling separate tools per platform.
- •Live GPS tracking and real-time vehicle monitoring
- •Geofence creation with entry/exit alert notifications
- •Trip history and route review for operations teams
- •Control workflows for connected tracking and dashcam devices
- •Reliable dual-platform performance for Android and iOS users
What I Built & Why
I owned mobile app delivery end to end — map-first Flutter UI, backend integrations, and Firebase Functions for data workflows — designed for field reliability rather than demo polish.
- •Google Maps SDK for live vehicle positions and route visualization
- •REST API integration for fleet data, geofences, trips, and device state
- •Firebase Functions for server-side data processing and sync
- •Push notifications for geofence and operational alerts
- •Modular architecture supporting analytics, reporting, and device control flows
Decisions I Made
Architectural and product choices from production constraints — not hindsight slides.
Map-first Flutter with Google Maps
Built the core experience around live GPS on Google Maps SDK — vehicle positions, routes, and geofences visible at a glance rather than buried in list views.
Firebase Functions for fleet data workflows
Owned both the mobile app and Firebase Functions for server-side data processing — keeping sync and backend logic under one developer rather than split across teams.
Push notifications for geofence alerts
Geofence entry and exit events trigger push alerts so fleet operators react in the field without polling the app constantly.
Dual-store release over 15 months
Shipped and maintained Android and iOS builds from Mar 2022 through Jun 2023 — field reliability on both platforms, not a single-platform MVP.
